Bihuram Boro was an Indian Bodo poet, writer, teacher and social activist. He worked really hard and helped out the Bodo community in areas like language, literature, religion, and culture, which ended up making the Bodo community more well-known.
Bihuram Boro known as ‘Swrbang Subung’ and ‘Iron Man of the Bodos‘, famous for his first Bodo semi-epic poetry book named ‘Gibi Bithai’ which is recognized as the religious book of the Bathousim in Bodo Literature. He was a teacher by profession and an active worker of Bodo Sahitya Sabha.
He was the founder of Joy Bhadra Hagjer High School of Rowta Chariali, Udalguri. He was also a dedicated member of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha. He served the Bodo Sahitya Sabha as its General Secretary and Vice-President for several terms upto his sad demise on September 27th, 1990.
He was born on 1st September 1940 to the Bodo speaking family Chandrakanta Baglary and Morai Baglary at Bengsimari village under Rowta Chariali of Udalguri district, Assam. He was married to Lalita Boro.
He was a good student while he was studying. In life, he had a really strong passion for education, believing it was important for a human to live well and help people in society. He always studied hard.
He finished his schooling well in middle and high school, starting from eleminetary school. He graduated Bachelor of Arts from Mangoldoi College, and joined as assistant teacher in Bakatpara High School. Later, he became the founder teacher for Joybhadra Hagjer Memorial High School situated at Rowta Chariali.
From 1986 to 1971, he was the General Secretary for Mangoldoi District Bodo Sahitya Sabha. From 1971 to 1974 , he was the General Secretary for Bodo Sahitya Sabha. From 1974 to 1977, he was the Vice-president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha. For the second time, he became General Secretary for Bodo Sahitya Sabha from 1977 to 1989.
He was a writer turned journalist too. He has written several books in Bodo language and English. He was also the publisher and editor of the first Bodo newspaper named ‘Bonjar’ which was published in 1971 from Udalguri district.
Literary Works:
- Gibi Bithai (poetry book 1984). One of the most read poetry book in Bodo language. The book is recognized as the religious book of the Bathouism.
- Asharba (?). This book is also written based on the belief and traditions in Bathouism.
- Swrbang Subung Bihuram Boroni Swrji (2009). The collection of his literary works published by Bodo Publication Board, Bodo Sahitya Sabha.
