Birjoy Brahma and the Forest Man of India

Birjoy Brahma was a student who grew up in a village, facing the struggles of a tough family life and some hardships. His father was a farmer, and his mother sold homemade snacks every day in a small shop.

He spent his entire childhood playing and enjoying himself in the village. The orchards and plants around the village brought him joy. He played in the village pond and bathed in the canal farmers used for irrigation.

After finishing high school, he moved to the Bongaigaon city to continue his higher studies. For a while, he adjusted to city life and its environment, but his heart was always more inclined towards life in the countryside.

He had heard about the ‘Forest man of India,’ Jadab Payeng, and his greatness while he was a student. He read about him and was really impressed by his love for and dedication to nature.

In April 2023, on the birth anniversary of social reformer Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust held a ceremony in Delhi, India’s capital, to give him the 5th Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award.

That day, Birjoy Brahma met the great man briefly and talked to him about a few things. That conversation later inspired him to love, respect, and work to protect the environment.
