Phaylaw Basumatary was a well-known Bodo film director, producer, script writer, actor, songwriter, and singer.
He was famously known as ‘Basu Da‘ for his role in the Assamese serial Beherbari Outpost.
His films had a unique mix of fun, charm, and depth.
Starting with films like Hainamuli, one of the most comedy film in the history of Bodo cinema, Sangrema, Gwrbwni Mwdwi, Khwina, Lantha Police he released several movies over different periods.
Most of the time, he took on roles as a comedian. He played a villainous roles in the films directed by himself Khwina, Lantha Police and Rabi Narzary’s family drama film Bima Badi Bajwi.
He also played comedic roles in his directorial films like Sangrema, Khamglinai Gwsw, and Gwrbwni Mwdwi.
He produced a few Bodo video albums as well. He sang and featured while composing songs. He produced and released several Bodo Bwisagu video albums.
The songs he wrote were mostly sung by Zubin Garg, whose voice makes a kind of magic flow through everyone’s heart when they listen. It shows that something in life is achievable.
Besides Zubin Garg, his songs were also sung many times by well-known borough singers like Bigrai Brahma and Sulekha Basumatary.
