Khanin Bodosa: His Life and Filmography

Khanin Bodosa widely known as K. Bodosa was an Indian Bodo film director, actor, screenplay writer and cinematographer. He is best known for his directorial works in Bodo film industry.

Early Life and Marriage: He was born on 22th September 1959 to the Bodo speaking family Barendranath Brahma and Tulshi Brahma at Habrubil village of Serphanguri under Kokrajhar district.

Filmography: He spent half of his life serving Bodo culture and making films in Bodo language. He worked as a director, actor, scrip-writer and producer in the Bodo film industry. His contribution to developing Bodo cinema, something he’s been passionate about since childhood, is huge. Because of his hard work and dedication to his films, many Bodo actors and actresses got their break and made a name for themselves in the industry.

Khanin Bodosa’s directorial debut fim Boba was released in 1987. The most tragedy romantic film story script was written by folk-singer and cultural activist Rahendra Nath Brahma. The film was produced by the cultural organization Birgwsrini Harimu Afad from Kokrajhar district. His second directorial film Beher was released in 1990. The romantic family drama film story by Rupendranath Basumatary.

His debut and second films got a lot of praise from the audience, which gave him all the inspiration he needed to keep making more films. After that, he went to make several more films back to back and really made a name for himself as a successful filmmaker.

The romantic film Asha (1992), written and directed by Khanin Bodosa and produced by Indira Film Production. The action romantic film Rwikathi (1994), produced by Jangkhrikhang Film Production, Kachugaon.

One of the most watched films in the history of the Bodo film industry Enaini Panjari was released in 1995). The action thriller film written and directed by Khanin Bodosa and produced by Bwirathi Film Production. It is the first political film in the history of Bodo cinema. The film story is loosely based on the novel book named ‘Kharlung’ written by novelist and Sahitya Akademi Awardee Manaranjan Lahary published in 1976.

Dahal (1996), the romantic, action and family drama film story written by well-known short story writer Nilkamal Brahma and produced by Gaurang Film Production.

The most tragedy romantic family drama film Barse Bibar (1997) written by the noted singer and cultural activist Satrajit Narzary and produced by Baokhungri Film Production. The songs of the film are highly romantic and appreciated.

Songalee (2002), romantic horror film written by Nilkamal Brahma and produced by Gaurang Film Production. The film starred by Umesh Brahma, Swapan Kumar Narzary and Ringkumoni Narzary. The romantic fim Mesengni Ruathi (2004), was written by Swapan Kumar Narzary and produced by Mwsakhaori Film Production. Gwrbw Nwjwr (2005), romantic drama film written by Amrit Daimary, starred by Raju Kumar Basumatary, Ringkumoni Narzary and produced by Jaikhlong Film Production.

Jethw (2005), action romantic film written by Swapan Kumar Narzary and by starred by Gitanjali Basumatary. The film produced by Mwsakhaori Film Production.

Pathwilai Bisinai (2006). The family drama film story written by Swapan Kumar Narzary, directed by his pen name K. Bodosa and produced by Mwsakhaori Film Production. The film starred by Dwimalu, Monojit and Sangina Brahma as leading roles. Gitanjali Basumatary, Bikash Basumatary and Swapan Kumar Narzary play the supporting roles in the film.

Taxi Driver (2008), romantic drama film starred by Umesh Brahma and Ambikagiri Narzary as leading roles. The film story and script by Kandaram Basumatary and produced by Gaurang Film Production. It’s a romantic movie about a taxi driver who falls in love with the beautiful daughter of his owner. The family is against it at first,  but she ends up marrying him. Later, while living somewhere else, they face a bunch of tough problems. After dealing with one situation after another, the taxi driver escapes from Assam and hides in Meghalaya. There, he tragically loses his sister to some thugs while trying to protect her from the gangsters.

Sathbangsa (2008), action romantic film starred by Rajorshi Basumatary and Sangina Brahma as leading roles. Jiuti Muchahary, Bikash Basumatary and Dankw Lwdw Basumatary and Mosko Brahma as supporting roles in the film.

It’s a political movie. Banashi’s husband nominated for council election and was stabbed to death while he was giving a public speech. Banashi stays as a priest in a temple located at Ultpani surrounded by Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park. She decided to revenge on the people who killed her husband. She send her only son name Derhasat to study. Dehasat falls in love with a girl named Abir, the daughter of political family who involved in his father’s murder. Derhasat was a brilliant student, and got first class first position in Bachelor degree.

After finding out Derhasat was the son of the man they killed, Abir’s father and politicians plotted against him and had him imprisoned. He was tortured as much as they could. When the Derhasat mother heard the sad news, she decided to take down her enemies with the help of her friends. One by one, her enemies were killed with trisul.

Derhasat gets out of jail by tricking people with the help of some friends who were also in jail. The police go after them, and out in  the wild, there’s a firing between them. In the ends, they give up to the police.

Daini Saja (2009), the commercial successful action drama film starred by Rajorshi Basumatary, Dilip Basumatary, Sukhbir Karzee, Sangina Brahma. Well-known comedian Jwngsrang Brahma, Dwimasa Brahma and Dangkhw Lwdw Basumatary play the comic roles in the film.

It’s a really great movie where famous actors and actresses got to act together. It’s also a political movie, just like Sathbangsa directed by him. A police officer lost his dad when he was a kid. The people who killed his dad are always causing trouble in society and working against him. In the end, the gangsters were taken down by the police officer.

•He was the Secretary of Kokrajhar District Bodo Harimu Afad from 2007 to 2009. He breathed his last on 29th September 2009.

•The Bodo Cine Artists Association decided to give Best Director Award in the name of Khanin Bodosa every year to whoever can direct the best film in Bodo language.
